COOKIE POLICY

1. Purpose

The purpose of this cookie policy is to inform you, clearly and transparently, about the use of cookies and trackers placed on your device when you browse the Wattson application available at getwattson.io (hereinafter the "Application").

It supplements our Privacy Policy ["https://getwattson.io/legal/privacy_policy"], which describes in full the personal data we process, the purposes of that processing and your rights. In the event of any conflict between the two documents on the specific question of cookies, this policy shall prevail.

It has been drawn up in accordance with Article 82 of Law No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978 as amended (the "French Data Protection Act"), which transposes into French law Directive 2002/58/EC of 12 July 2002 (the "ePrivacy" Directive), as well as with the guidelines and recommendation of the French Data Protection Authority (Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés – CNIL) on cookies and other trackers.

2. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file placed on, and read from, for example, your computer, tablet or smartphone when you use an online service. It allows the party that issued it, for as long as it remains valid, to recognise the device concerned each time that device accesses digital content containing cookies from that same issuer.

A cookie may be used for a variety of purposes: keeping a user session active, remembering display preferences, measuring audience, or tracking browsing for advertising purposes.

The term "cookie" is used below in a broad sense, covering any equivalent tracker liable to be placed on your device (local storage, technical identifiers, etc.).

3. Who places cookies on the Application?

Only the publisher of the Application places cookies. The party responsible for placing them is:

Corporate name Pierre Halloo EI
Legal form Sole trader (entrepreneur individuel – EI) under the micro-enterprise regime
Registered office 4 rue de la gare, 80710, Quevauvillers, Somme, France
SIREN number 890589674
SIRET number 89058967400021
Intra-Community VAT number FR64890589674
Contact e-mail privacy@getwattson.io

No third-party cookie is placed on the Application: we do not integrate any audience measurement tool, any advertising pixel, any advertising network, any third-party conversational support tool and any client-side error monitoring or session recording tool. You will therefore never be tracked by a third party via getwattson.io.

4. The cookies we place

Wattson places strictly necessary cookies exclusively, for the operation of the service. No audience measurement, advertising personalisation or marketing profiling cookie is used.

Cookie name / type Purpose Technical characteristics Retention period
Access token cookie To keep your session authenticated and allow you to access the features reserved for logged-in users HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite 30 minutes
Refresh token cookie To renew your session automatically without requiring you to re-enter your credentials HttpOnly, Secure, SameSite 7 days (rotated on each use)
CSRF token cookie To protect the service against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks, i.e. to prevent a malicious site from carrying out actions in your name without your knowledge Secure, SameSite For the duration of the session

In addition, a non-sensitive technical indicator containing no personal data and permitting no tracking is used to allow the interface to know whether you are logged in and to display the appropriate elements (for example, to show the user menu rather than the login button).

Wattson uses neither the browser's local storage (localStorage) nor its session storage (sessionStorage) to hold personal data or authentication credentials.

5. Why do these cookies not require your consent?

Article 82 of the French Data Protection Act lays down a general principle that prior consent must be obtained before any cookie that is not strictly necessary is placed.

It nonetheless provides for an exemption for cookies that meet either of the following two conditions:

  • being used for the exclusive purpose of enabling or facilitating communication by electronic means; or
  • being strictly necessary for the provision of an online communication service expressly requested by the user.

The three cookies described in Section 4 fall within this second exemption: without them, it would simply be impossible to authenticate you and to use the Application securely. They serve no other purpose: no audience measurement, no advertising, no profiling.

This is why no consent banner is displayed on Wattson. This is not an oversight: it reflects the fact that we have deliberately designed the service so that it needs no cookie subject to consent.

Should this change in the future (for example, if we were one day to integrate a non-exempt audience measurement tool), we would put in place a consent collection mechanism compliant with the CNIL's recommendations before any such cookie is placed, and we would update this policy accordingly.

6. How to manage cookies from your browser

Although the cookies placed by Wattson are exempt from consent, you remain free, at any time, to configure your browser to refuse or delete cookies.

Please note: as these cookies are strictly necessary for authentication, blocking them will prevent the Application from working you will not be able to stay logged in and certain features will be inaccessible.

7. Cookies placed by third-party services to which you choose to connect

If you choose to connect your Wattson account to the platform of a connected device manufacturer (for example Wahoo), you are redirected to that provider's site in order to authorise the connection using the OAuth 2.0 protocol. That provider may place its own cookies on its own domain, in accordance with its own policy, over which Wattson exercises no control.

This policy does not cover those cookies. We invite you to consult the cookie policy of the provider concerned before making any connection.

8. Amendments to this policy

We may amend this cookie policy, in particular to take account of changes to the Application or to the regulatory framework. Any material change in particular the addition of a cookie that is not exempt from consent will be notified to you by appropriate means (banner, e-mail or in-app notification, as applicable) before it takes effect.

The date of the last update appears at the top of this document.
